Tab Title: Point mutations
Tab Content:
Point mutations result from a single base substitution
a. Transitions - Substitution of a purine or pyrimidine by another purine or pyrimidine
b. Transversions - Substitution of purine by a pyrimidine or vice versa
Tab Title: Deletion and insertion mutations
Tab Content:
Deletion or insertion of one or more nucleotides in the DNA. If the mutation occurs in the coding region, the mutation may cause a shift in the reading frame of the genetic message (frame-shift mutations). A frame-shift mutation occurs when the insertion or deletion results in a change of the codon (three nucleotides) from the point of insertion or deletion.
