The Men Behind the Sign -
Construction of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Monument
On December 31, 2007, Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long donated $25 million to the UTHSCSA. The monies donated establishes the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Scholarship, Research and Teaching fund. In honor of their generous gift to the UTHSCSA, the central campus has been named the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus. Facilities Management's contribution to their wide-reaching donation is the construction of a monument honoring the Longs. Construction of this project began on March 10, 2008 with the monument being completed at the end of April. The shops involved in the project included Facilities Management Carpentery, Masonry, Electrical, Grounds, Sheet metal, and Cabinetry, along with contractors from Garza Stone who provided the stone and Southwell Signs who provided the marquee lettering. Dan Parker, Facilities Management Project Manager, coordinated the construction to coincide with the dedication of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Campus on May 8, 2008. This monument stands as a result of hard work and a team effort by Facilities Management in recognizing the great contribution the Longs have bestowed upon the UTHSCSA and the community.
