Will my lab lose power?
Please reference the outage email communication specifying which campus and buildings will be impacted.
Will the elevators work during the outage?
Not all elevators will. Some elevators throughout campus are on emergency power and will operate during a power outage.
Can I request extension cords, or a review of my space, to temporarily power my equipment?
Yes, please respond to the outage communication and provide details and our engineers will meet with you ahead of the outage to address your needs.
Will we lose network connection during the outage?
Yes, assume there will be temporary network interruption if your building is impacted.
Will my computer lose power?
If your computer is a functioning laptop, the internal battery should carry the computer until the 1) the battery is completely drained, 2) your computer is plugged into a red emergency outlet or 3) normal building power is restored.
What if I remote desktop access and my University computer is in a space impacted by the power outage?
After power is restored, you will need to turn on your University computer and log back in.
Will I lose VPN capabilities during the outage?
No.
Will my breakroom be impacted?
Yes and it is recommended that you remove any items from a refrigerator prior to the planned power outage if your equipment is not connected to a red emergency power outlet.
What if my computer is connected to a surge protector? Will I still have power during the power outage?
No. A surge protector does not have a battery that will prevent loss of power to the equipment connected to it.
How do I know if I am in the Medical School Building, the Dental School Building, or the Basic Science Building?
The Medical School Building contains spaces with an A, B, C, D, E, F or L designation.
The Dental School Building contains spaces with a R, S, T, and U designation.
The Basic Science Buidling contains spaces with a V designation.
The notice for the outage said Dental School Building. I work in the Center for Oral Health Care and Research (COHCR) Building, will I be impacted?
No. The Dental School is located at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive on the Long (Main) Campus. The COHCR is located at 8210 Floyd Curl Drive.
