Seven More Alumni Mentors Needed for FAME Program
Following our FAME event on July 11, the Alumni Association has enlisted 14 alumni mentors for the class of 20 students starting the FAME program this fall. Offered through a partnership between the School of Medicine and UTSA, FAME is the new seven-year program leading to the awarding of a baccalaureate and MD degree. If you are interested in mentoring, please contact the Alumni Relations Office at medalumni@uthscsa.edu or call 210-567-4400.

Just Two Months to Reunion Weekend 2013!
With only two months until Reunion Weekend 2013, the Alumni Association is making final preparations for the two-day extravaganza on October 18-19. All MD, residency and fellowship graduates of the School of Medicine are welcome. The following classes will be celebrating special reunions this year: 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 2003 and 2008.

Palmer ’73 Confirmed as President of TOA for 2013-14
Patrick Palmer, M.D. ’73, a faculty member at the School of Medicine, was confirmed as the Texas Orthopaedic Association’s president at the organization’s annual meeting in Austin on April 20.  His term will conclude in April 2014 at TOA’s 2014 annual meeting in San Antonio. More…

RGV Alumni Chapter Hosts 4th Annual BBQ
The Rio Grande Valley Alumni Chapter hosted its 4th annual BBQ for alumni, medical students, and FASTS and MedEd students in July.  Dr. Javier Saenz ’82 welcomed guests followed by a School of Medicine presentation by Dr. Leo Vela, Regional Dean. Announcing New Bedside Ultrasound Workshops for Clinicians
The School of Medicine is pleased to offer two-day workshops designed for physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in internal medicine, hospital medicine, emergency medicine, critical care medicine and family medicine. Attendees will practice capturing specific ultrasound views on live models and patients in several small-group, hands-on sessions. Nationally recognized course directors, Nilam Soni, MD and Craig Sisson, MD, will be leading these workshops with experienced faculty.  Workshops are available in October 2013, January 2014, and May 2014.  More…
