Behavior, Biology, and Chemistry
Translational Research in Substance Use Disorders

This conference focuses on translational aspects of substance use disorder research among chemists, biologists, and behavioral scientists. The diversity of participants and attendees at this meeting (undergraduate students to senior faculty, chemists to psychiatrists) provides a unique venue for networking among different disciplines and in so doing promotes new and innovative approaches to medications development in substance use disorder science. The meeting provides a stimulating environment for young scientists who are strongly encouraged to present their work and interact with senior scientists. The Pathways to Careers in Science (PCS) Workshops are a free event and gives trainees an opportunity to discuss the variety of career paths that are available to young scientists.

Travel Awards Image

Deadline: Monday, December 9

BBC is pleased to offer travel awards to help defray the costs of attending the meeting. Trainees of all ranks, as well as early career faculty, are encouraged to apply. Travel awards for the 2025 conference include:

  • Up to $500 travel reimbursement
  • Shared lodging at the conference hotel
  • Waived conference registration fees
  • Transportation between the airport and hotel

Travel award application documents are collected through the BBC Registration form. Travel award applicants are asked to only pay the $25 abstract fee at the time of applying. Award decisions will be communicated in early January 2025. Should an applicant not receive an award, but still choose to attend the conference, it is at that time that we ask that they pay the presenting student/postdoc fee. *To be eligible for travel awards, abstracts must be submitted by Monday, December 9

Abstracts must include the following: rationale, hypothesis, species, number of subjects, procedures (methods and statistical analyses), results, and conclusions (importance of findings). Each abstract must be unique and can only be submitted under one author. Each abstract may be submitted for consideration for only one author or one discounted registration fee. Please make a note that the poster dimensions have changed from the 2024 dimensions.

A Science-Focused, Action Packed Weekend

Conference Registration Fees Include:

  • 3 catered meals in addition to complimentary breakfast provided by the hotel.
  • Single-track conference including a plenary symposium, two poster sessions, two special lectures, a lunch and learn panel discussion, and five oral communication sessions.
  • Annual BBC button and swag items.

Friday Night Reception

The BBC Conference kicks off with a welcome reception beginning at 6 PM. A full meal and bar will be offered. Take this time to network with other attendees, reunite with old friends, and forge new connections. Before or after the reception, take some time to explore the hotel's amenities or visit the restaurants and attractions within walking distance as mentioned on the Hotel tab.

Streamlined Conference

Our attendees don't have to worry about getting lost in the conference space or choosing to attend one talk while missing another. With no breakout sessions, attendees can immerse themselves in the full spectrum of presentations. Dedicated breaks and poster sessions allow attendees to visit the refreshment tables stocked with water, sodas, coffee, and tea.

Sunday Farewell

Take your time enjoying the hotel's delicious complimentary breakfast before departing to the first sessions of the day. The conference concludes early Sunday afternoon with the presentation of awards and cash prizes. With the conference hotel being a short 20 minute ride to the airport, attendees will have plenty of time to make it on their flights.

Reservations at the conference hotel are only avaible through the link on the BBC Hotel page or using group code 90V. A limited number of rooms have been made available for attendees who would like to arrive to San Antonio early and stay on Thursday, 20 March. The San Antonio International Airport is approximately 20 minutes from the hotel. Many of the San Antonio highways are currently under construction, leading to increased rush hour traffic, please take this into consideration when planning your travel.
